About

Hi! I am a 19 year old nursing student, among many other things. But seeing as I am paying for that title, I might as well use it. Here on this blog are bits and pieces of my life that I would like to share with you. Hopefully it will be good times had by all. Leave me a comment, or email me if you wanna chat! (see link below)
Enjoy.

Strep Throat

Strep throat, anyone??

Well. Let's count the number of times Alex has had strep throat in the last 4 months: once, for the entire month of August (I didnt know I had it), once in September, once in October, and yes, you guessed it, RIGHT NOW!
Now, if any of you don't know the joys of this excellent bacteria...just come visit me. (Although I don't know if I am contagious, Kyle has managed to catch it yet) Anyway. Sore throat, achy, tired, headache, and just feeling icky. I don't know what it feels like to not have strep throat. It really sucks.
Every single time my doctor prescribes good ol' penicillin. Thank you Alexander Fleming. YOU WOULD THINK that by now my doctor would figure out that maybe it's not working. Apparently 7+ years in University education isn't enough. Grr.
So today the clinic phones me about my doctors appointment and throat culture which was last week Thursday. It was positive for strep. Could I please pick up my prescription of penicillin, and which pharmacy would I like it sent to? Well, first of all, I don't want anymore crappy penicillin. Because obviously my body is pretty resistent to the stuff...or it is now. So she kindly says she'll talk to the doctor, and his nurse will phone me back.
This is where it gets good.
The nurse says to me "You know, Alex, I think it would be really good if you came in to the clinic today. " (Great...what a waste of time.) "I really think it would be good if you saw the doctor today and told him about your frustrations." (What?? Was I not clear enough? PENICILLIN DOESNT WORK. What else is there to know?)
What is she trying to do, be therapeutic? Empathize with the client? Be assertive? Exhibit excellent nurse-client communication?? This is all the junk Im learning in College. I am so jaded by school, and sick of nursing. Even nurses being nurses make me mad.
So anyway, Im off to my appointment here in 5 minutes. : Good times.

I hate Step. I had it right before Grad. I couldn't swallow my own spit. But at least it helped me fit into my (our) dress better!! haha. Hope you feel better soon! top
